Frequently Asked Questions

Are Sugar paste flowers edible?

All Sugar paste flowers and decorations are intended for decorative purposes only.

What are your sugar flowers made out of?

Fine & Dandy sugar flowers are made from a handcrafted recipe of sugar paste (a mixture of sugar, oils, gums, and egg whites). Many designs include non-edible items such as floral wire, floral tape, wired stamens, non-edible petal dusts, and wooden skewers.

What is sugar paste?

Sugar paste (also known as gum paste) is similar to fondant; it is a pliable dough that can be rolled very thin and dries hard, perfect for making sugar flowers and other cake decorations. Sugar paste is fully edible and is most commonly used when preparing cake decorations.

How long do sugar paste flowers/decorations keep?

Sugar flowers/decorations may keep for several years as long as they are kept safe and away from direct sunlight or moisture.

How do I place sugar flowers onto my cake?

The easiest way is to properly place them on top of the cake. Insert arrangement by base of stem (usually taped to a wooden skewer or toothpick), if filler flowers or greenery & buds are included, use these to fill any spaces around the focal piece.

What can I do if I have broken or damaged sugar flowers or petals?

We do our best to package and ship our product the best and safest way we can. However, due to the fragile nature of our product, breakage can occur during shipping. There are some creative ways to work with the remaining flowers or to repair any breakage. The easiest way to disguise any breakage is to snip off the entire broken petal using wire cutters and snipping as close to the end of the wire as possible while still supporting the sugar bloom. Or you can place the broken petal against the icing on the cake hiding the breakage.

Are sugar flowers fragile?

Due to the delicate nature of dried sugar paste, our sugar flowers are fragile, yes. They need to be handled with care when opening and adjusting petals/leaves after opening and while arrangement on cakes.

How far in advance should I purchase my sugar paste decorations?

Make sure to give plenty of time (at least 2-3 weeks) incase you need to order additional or replacement pieces. Please consider ordering as far in advance as possible as the variety of flower/arrangement or sugar paste decoration varies based on time and detail involved.
